BALCLUTHA.

(From our own Correspondent.) Balclutha, September 29. The drawing together of Balclutha nud Duneaia by rail is daily calling forth signs of progress iu our midst. Sites for places'of business are eagerly sought after, and i. hear wo are to have a Hnendraper Horn Dunedin, butchers and auctioneers from somewhere else, and various other trade additions Messrs M’Leau Bros., of Dunedin, have leased St, John’s Hall for a term of years, with a view' of converting it in‘o an uii'tion mart and store. The present, terminus of tho railway is a great barrier to goads traffic, as ail parcels have to be taken deliver/ of at Stirling and goods token there. It would pay tho Government ti form a tramway or brunch line from Uio present terminus to the north end of tho present bridge, where goods could be received and delivered very conveniently, ajul which would be a very considerable boon to the traveling public. The Waitepeka deviation is still agitated for by a few in that locality through the columns of our local paper. Hie people of Balclqtlpv have not as yet spoken either la favor of or against that line ; but were tluy to look to their own interests they would oppose it, as by this deviation being allowed a veiy large amount of traffic would be cut off from Balclutha.

Concrete buildings arc growing in favor daily here, Messrs Gilgour Bros', now shop and the new Bunk of New Zealand being of that material. and Mr Hutchins ((.d emist) is about to erect a new slurp and uwelling of concrete.
