Auckland, September 22. Captain Johnston, master of the Magellan Cloud, fell down stairs to-day, and sustained injuries from which he is not expected to recover.
It is proposed to erect a new theatre at the corner of Victoria and Queen streets. The Masonic installation of Brother William M'Cullogh, as Deputy Provincial Grand Master of New Zealand under the Scottish Constitution, last night, was the occasion of the largest Masonic gathering held here for years.
Wellington, September 22. An attachment has been issued and executedagainst the Young Dick for not having complied with the order of the Court of Inquiry to pay costs and damages in connection with the late collision with the Jane Spiers in the Straits.
Reefton, September 22. Stone of surpassing richnesß was struck today at Murray Creek, in the Golden Treasure mine. An average specimen of lib weight gave 25dwts of gold. There is great inquiry for t hares, but none are obtainable ; and there is ademand for Herald and Eaglehawk adjoining. Leases and all interests in Murray Creek are rapidly advancing.
Lyttelton, September 22. The Maori, on leaving the wharf to-day at low water, got, her fan entangled with some stray warp lying in the harbor, and was detained. A diver is employed now clearing the fan. She sails for the (South to-night, when clear of the obstruction.
Bltj>f, September 22. The Ringaro'.ma, Captiin M'Lean, left Melbourne at 5.10 p.m. on the 18th, with the English mail. She was hove-to for a few hours this morning, and anived here at 7 pm. She made the run in three days twenty hours, being the quickest,<m lecord. She brings foity-two saloon and fifty-three steerage passengers, and 441 tons cargo for all ports, and will sail for Dunedin to-morrow at 4 p.m. Passengers for Duuedin :- Mrs A. Burk, Mr and Mrs Isaaus and family (ti'ree), Mrs Edwards. Mr Godby, Mr T. Go-lby. Mr Karrer, Miss Crawford, Mr and Mrs Hill, Mr Jack, family (two), and servant, Mr Mi. -rhouse, Mr Staite, Mr and Mrs Weston, Mr Soilness, Mr Oakden, thirty-five in the steerage, and 190 tons of cargo.

A .case was heard to-day in the District Court in which damages were claimed for working the Corporation quarry, near Mr Battersby's house. It was decided that, in order to te.st the damage, if any was done, by blasting, four jurymen should bo stationed in t.ie house to-morrow while four blasts lift deep am! 2in in diameter half filled with powder are exploded. The jury are to ass. es the damages if the house is destroyed, or according to the result. The Judge declined being with the
jury, and hinted at the being a ease of manslaughter.
