CITY POLICE COURT.

Wednesday, September 22. (Before W. Hickson, Esq., and Dr Niven. J.P.’s.)

Drunkhnness. ~ Thofl. Msylon was discharged ; James M'Clure, ss, or twenty-four hours’; Thomas Steven, 10s, or forty-eight hours’. For using o' seme language, the lastnamed offender was further fined 20s, in default three days' imprisonment. Vagrancy. —Emma Lane, a character well known to the police, was sent to gaol for three months for having no lawful means of support, STEALING Timber,— James Williams, for stealing a piece of timber of the value of Is, was sent to gaol for three days. Obscene Languag -.—John Cochrane, for this offence, was fined 20s and costs, in three days’ imprisonment.

Assault. —James Murphy, James Kennedy, and James O’- 'onnell, were’ charged with committing a breach of the peace at Kaikorai Hid ■in the sth inst. The accused were discharged with a caution.

Wipe Desertion. —Michael Cunningham was charged by his wife, Jane Cunningham, with deserting her, and leaving her without means of support. Defendant had, through his ill-treatment of his wife, driven her away from home, and he agreed to give her 20s a week to maintain herself. As there was no order compiling him to do so he had latterly been dilatory in his paj ments, and had almost neglected his wife. —The Bench fined defendant 20s and costs, and made an order compelling him to pay 20s a week towards his wife’s support.
