FOOTBALL AND VANDALISM.
To the Editor. Sill.—Allow tup r.n pntttr iiiv nrnfpaf ni»ainiit
uin,—Aiww me i,o enter my prorest against the glaring and wanton act of vandalism and destructiveness about to be perpetrated by our so-called football " representatives." By their obstinate and wrongheaded selfishness they have alienated the sympathies and forfeited the respect of all right-thinking men. With the senselessness and wilfulness of rare and inexperienced youths, they are about to run a-muck against propriety and good taste, and outrage every principle of honor and true manliness. Cricketers will have to pay through the nose for the waywardness of these white; eleplwnts, who might just as well disport themselves at Montecillo or anywhere else as upon the expenscnsively-made turf of the Oval. While heartily welcoming our Auckland visitors, and trusting that the best men may win, I cannot but call attention to the very glaring selfishness and want of consideration shown to cricketers by the Dunedin Football Club.—l am, &c, Thud. Dunedin, September 21.
