FARE OR NOT FAIR.
To the Editor.
Sir, —Can you tell me why the official printed books containing the fares chargeable <m the Du'iedin at.d Clutha Railway differ from the fares actually charged ? I find by the book that a second cla>»s return ticket between Dunedin and Tokomairiro should cost 8s 9d, but on the only two occasions on which I have taken such ticket* the official from whom I received them told me the fare was 9s —and I had to pay it. Now threepence is nota great deal to grumble about, but if evtry passenger is taxed in a similar way a nice little sum will accumulate monthly, for I see that an odd threepence is tacked on to the fares to several other stations. Who gets the benefits of these little " extras ?" —I am, & c ,
Would like to know. Dunedin, September 21.
