Beautiful Star returned Sun Lyttelton and intermediate ports at 9.30 a.in. yesterday. She left Lyi teltou at 2 p.m. on the 16th with n. strong southerly wind, and put into Akaroa at 11 p.m., owing to the gale increasing, with heavy sea; remained there until 5 p.m. on the 17th. and arrived at Timaru at 5 a.m. on the 18th, with a strong S.E. wind and heavy sea; took in 300 bags of grain, and left for Port Chalmers at 6 p.m. The ceremony of launching the Melbourne, a fine iron clipper ship of 2,000 tons, built to the order of Messrs Green and Co., of Blackwall, took place on the 6th June, and for the first time iu connection w th the launch of a merchant ship was the reading of the short religious service recently introduced by the Archbishop of Canterbury, and ordered to bo read at the launching 'of Her Majesty’s ships. A largo comunny witnessed the launch, including the Bishop of Melbourne and Mrs Perry, Lady Cooper and the Misses Cooper. Miss ' Ellen Cooper christened the ship.
