CITY COUNCIL.

The adjourned meeting of the City Council was held lasc night; present—The Mayor, Crs. Brown, Campbell, Chapman, Gibson, Grant, Isaac, Lesiry, Mollison, Quick, Reeves, Roberts, and Woodland.

Mr E. Fox, secretary to Sir Julius Vogel, wrote from London, unclosing copies of correspondence between Sir Julius and Mr G. B. Bruce (consulting engineer to the New Zealand Government in "Kugland) respecting the Liernur system of drainage. It was resolved that the thanks Ot the Council be tendered to -Sir Julius Vogel. The Committee appointed to enquire into and report upon the management of the stone-cru-dring mai hine and the dispell of the m- tal, reported that the result of the investigation sv.is tht roughly satisfactory, and recommended to th-tlf/ct that the present system be adhered to. Report adopted. Tsaao moved and Cr. BBOWN seconded, " That iu future the ordinary meetings of thr City Council be held ar, three o'clock in the afternoon instead of at seven o'clock in the evening." After some discussion the motion was carried by seven to 2, the remainder not voting.
