A COMPROMISE ON THE ABOLITION QUESTION.

For some unaccountable reason we have received no Wellington telegrams to-day. We take the following from a ‘ Daily Times ’ extra published this morning ;

The following proposals, submit,p dto the representatives of the Oppo-itiou by the Govern ment have been accepted :
(1.) 'J har the Abolition Hill be passed this sessi m, with a proviso m that it should only take effect on a day to be named by proclamation of the Governor, bait that no snob proclamation shall issue should a resolution of either House of Legislative to the contrary be intmducod within one mouth after the meeting of the new Parliament, and passed before tin-close of the session.
(2 ) that Provincial administration shall continue until the Act is so proclaimed that the appropriation for dep .rtmrntal purposes shall be continued by the Assembly at the present rates. That public works already nuthoiised by'the Provincial Councils shall be undertaken, but that no Provincial Council shall meet again unless the Act lapse. Great discontent exists among the Government party, on account of these proposals having been submitted.
