A NUISANCE.

To tU Editor.

Sin, -Allow me, through your columns, to draw the attention of the City Council to a nuisance which has been in existence for some months. Aftei tlio (Council formed antl asphalted the footpath in Cumberland sheet (from Stuart street to St. Andrew street). Messrs Fiiullay and Co. fcv.nd their gateway was not wide en .ugh, or was inconveniently situated for their purposes, I suppose, anil have now extended it beyond the width of the crossing laid down. This has caused large waggons entering then-premises to pas? over the footpath, cutting a hole near upon twelve inches deep. To make the matter worse, they (or those employed by them) wash their iio:>e-' just inside the gateway (one morning last week a bugyy was king washed on the footpath), the waste water from the tap llowing into the hole above mentioned, ilrmce across the f oat path. This spot, on a dark niyht, is not only disagreeable on account of the mud, but is '.'ailerons also, as a person jj'ottmj.' hiis toot into it would most likely break or sprain his ankle. I believe both the inspector and the member for th >t ward have been spokau to, but little attention soenn to have been paid to it. I'eikip.s this may be the means of the rc.-idfiits in that locality know who a:e to blame—the City Council or Messrs 'Findlay and Co.- I am. &c. Dunedin, September 8
