PORT CHALMERS TOWN COUNCIL.
The usual fortnightly meeting of the Council was held last evening ; present—The Mtiyoi, Ora. M'Kin lay, M‘Gregor, Asher, Reid, Mcnelaus, and Miller.
The Town Clerk read the following letter from Mr W. P. Pearce, contractor for the Waterworks Gentlemen — It strikes me you have scarcely understood the request of Messrs Cargill and Gibbs, in reference to the security required at your hands for the payment of the pipes they intend indenting for, for the Port Chalmers water supply contract. You are on delivery of the pipes to pay me at the rate of 80 per cent, on my schedule price, so all that is required is that you be pleased to pay the 80 per cent, to them instead of to me under the same conditions. This of itself is but a smill concession, and I trust you will do me the honor of complying therewith.” Letters were also reed from Mr A. Willis, Under - Secretary, informing the Council of the following extract from a letter received by bis Honor the DeputySuperintendent from the Hon. the Colonial Secretary, with reference to the reserve for a water supply for the town of Port Chalmers : “That the Commissioner of Crown Lands at Dunedin has been instructed to-day to prepare a Crown grant for tbe Port Chalmers Water Supply Reserve.” It was resolved, upon the motion of Cr.
