Friday, September 3. (before A, C. Begg, Esq., and J. Brown, Esq,, J.P.’s.)
Drunkenness, dames P. Eaplin, Thomas ■Smith, and Edward Crosswell were each fined os, with the alternative of twenty-four hours’ imprisonment j Matthew English and John Caaliu, each 40s, or fourteen days’. Vagrancy, —A charge of this nature against Ellen Jack was dismissed, accused having left the town. —Anne Vaughan was sentenced to fourteen days’ imprisonment. It was stated by the police that accused, who was one of the lowest prostitutes in Dunedin, was in the habit of prowling ahoutthe streets nightly. Shekept a brothel in Machin’s right-of-way, whither she decoyed her shipmates. Fighting. —John Williams and Robert Crawford, for conducting themselves in a manner calculated to provoke a breach of the peace, at the corner of High and Princes street, were each fined 20s; in default three days’ imprisonment.
Obscene Language. Jane Henderson, for using ob.-cene language in Machiu’s right-of-way, was fined L 5, with the alternative of three months’ imprisonment.
