The cutter Mermaid passed up to Dunedin this morning. The p.s. Comerang sailed this morning for her usual trip to Invercargill. The barque Kohinoor having finished discharging her cargo of timber and nearly ballasted will shortly sail for Newcastle. The s.s. Wanganui took her departure yesterday afternoon for her usual trip to the Bluff. The s.s. Express returned from her southern trip at nine this morning, and steamed up to Dunedin. The schooner Pioneer from Shag Point and ketch Palmerston from Moeraki arri /ed yesterday.
Tlie sliip Alilorgrove, having’ finished ballasting, will be removed from the railway pier and anchored in the stream this evening.
The ketch Defiance having been thoroughly overhauled was taken off Fletcher’s slip this morning, and sailed up to Dunedin to take in cargo for Moeraki.
The s.s. Express left Bhitf wharf on September 1 at 5 p.m., and arrived at Rattray street wharf at 9.30 a.m. to-day. She experienced N, E. winds throughout the passage. The s.s. Taranaki, having been cleaued and repainted, was taken out of the Graving Dock this morning and hauled alongside the railway pie)' to take in cargo, and will sail for her usual trip to Northern Ports to-morrow afternoon.
The brig Prairie was towed down from Dunedin last night by the s.s. Jane and anchored below the siiinpiug. She will shortly take her departure for Hobart Town.
Ttie ship Portland, with a cargo consisting of 1,087 tons of coal, from Newcastle, was towed up last evening by the tug Geelong. She left Newcastle on the 21st August; had strong S.W. winds until making the Snares on the morning of the 29th ult.; thence had light baffling winds and calms to arrival at the Heads yesterday afternoon.
