! IDLscharging cargo at Dunedin wharf has been almost completely stopped to-day by the heavy rain, and, in consequence, the departure of the p.s. Samson has been ]postponed until tomorrow evening, instead of Jem ing at 7 av»■. the asual time of Starting.
The p.s. Comerang sailed on Saturday evening for Eiverton. The Union Company’s p.s. Samson returned from her usual trip to Oamaru on Saturday afternoon and passed the Port to Dunedin. The barque Albyn’s Isle, with a cargo of grain tor Melbourne, sailed this morning with a strong S.W. wind. ~ , ~ The ketch Defiance, from Moeraki, and cutter Jane, from Shag, Point, arrived and passed np to Dnucdin. . The s.b. Wanganui returned from her usual trip to the Bluff at 3 p.m. yesterday. After landing her passengers at the port she steamed up to Dunedin, The barque Crishna was removed from the stream and moored alongside the new pier on Saturday afternoon to discharge her cargo of timber from Melbourne. The schooners Mary Ogilvie for Greymouth via Oaumru, and Tauranga for Wellington, ketches Gatlin for Oamaru, and Hope,barge, for Waikouaiti, sailed yesterday. The Union Co.’s s.s. Bruce came down from Dunedin on Saturday night for the purpose of going into Murray's floating dock for her periodical overhaul. After a spell «f N.E. winds, with fine weather, the wind shifted yesterday to the S.W., with occasional rain showers, but shortly after midnight the rain increased with great force, wh’ch continued the whole of the day, causing a total cessation of work in connection with the discharging of the various ships at the pier and in the stream. We may however, confidently expect with the shift of wind the arrival of some of our Home ships, especially the Strathmore, which vessel is now long overdue. The Union Company’s s.s. Maori returned from her usual monthly trip to the West Coast, via intermediate ports, at 9.5 a.m. yesterday. She left Port Chalmers on the afternoon of the 10th Inst., called at Lyttelton, Nelson, and Westport, and arrived off Hokitika at 3.30 a.m. on the 15th; left on the 16th, and proceeded to the Grey; took in coal and left at 11.30 a.m. on the 17th, arriving at Jackson’s Bay at 5 a.m. on the 18th; landed stores and left again at 6 a.m., arriving off Big Bay at 10.25 a.m,; after a short stay proceeded on to Milford Sound, arriving there at 2.30 p.m.; left at 5 p.m., and arrived at Eiverton Inlet at 7.35 a.m. on the 19th; landed stores and left at 3.15 p.m., arriving at the Bluff at noon ou the 20th; left there at 5.15 p.m. on the 21st and arrived at Port Chalmers as aboveSHIPPING TELEGEAMS.
