_ _ Arrow, August 21. Mr Hanj Eager, formerly of the Shotover Terrace, died at the Palmer diggings. Auckland, August 20. The Star relates the romantic history of a woman now waiting the arrival of the ship John Renniej from London. Her husband had realised all his property quickly in England, and left for New Zealand m the John Rennie. She went to London in search of him a few days after the Rennie had left, and, finding what had become of her unfaithful spouse, she immediately took passage by the steamship Somersetshire to Melbourne, came over here in tbe Hero, and now patiently waits the arrival of the ship with her husband, which is fully due. She calls on the agent of the ship daily to gather intelligence. A very painful case of insanity came before the Court to-day. A respectable married man, at the Thames, has gone insane through poisoning his finger, which gave him extreme pain, Heimagined himself Louis Napoleon Bonaparte, and intended to kill off all the Maories and reward everybody with LSOO a-year. He also meant to go Home and marry the Queen, and hnng her out here. He was committed to the Asylum.

~ , T , ~ Riverton, August 21. " Godgkinson, a strong Provincialist, has published an address to the electors ef Riverton m the ‘ Western Star,’ announcing himself as a candidate at the forthcoming general elec- i tion to represent the district in the Assembly. Balclxjtha, August 21. t> i , me ®ting was held last night at Balclutha, when there were present the members for the district in the Provincial Council, and the Mayor in the chair. The following resolutions were unanimously agreed to : (1 ) That.in the opinion of this meeting, the Abolition of Provinces Bill introduced by the Government seeks to effect a direct constitutional change ultra vires of the Assembly and subversive of the rights of the people, the abrogation of which this constituency declines' to submit to, (2.) That the course pursued by the Government is impolitic, the same being revolutionary and eminently calculated to cause serious dissensions in the body politic, to unsettle the minds of the people in their allegiance to her Majesty, as well as suggestive of resistance to constituted authority being necessary to the maintenance of the political rights and privileges of the people. (3). That the measures proposed.*® supersede Provincial

institutions are not fitted te carry out the objects for which they are ostensibly intended. (4). That the question of the abolition of the Provinces was not before the constituents when their present representatives were elected, and the people have a right to have their voices taken in a constitutional manner upon all questions so materially affecting their recognised rights and privileges as British subjects. (5). That a copy of the foregoing be forwarded to Mr J. W. Thomson, at Wellington, the member for the distiict.
