THE MABEL CASE.
To the Editor. Sir, -It is commonly reported that the signatures to the petition to take off the disqualification from the racing mare Mabel, presented by Mr Arthur Smith to the late meeting of the Jockey Club (’ommittee, were obtained under what some term “false pretences”—in other words that people were induced to sign it by being told that if not removed the disqualification would extend to all her future progeny. Now I can scarcely think that the gentlemen who canvassed for signatures would be guilty of such conduct, but the contrary is so strongly asser ed that it would perhaps be as well for a dietinct denial to be given if it be a slander.— 1 am, Ac,, One Interested. Dunedin, August 21.
