Tlie p.s. Samson left last evening on her usual trip to Oamaru. The s.s. Busby took her departure for Sydney, via Northern Ports, this afternoon. Tho barque Craigie Lea, having nearly finished ballasting, commenced this morning to bend sails. Messrs Houghton and Co.’s s.s. Wanganui arrived from her Southern trip to Bivertonand the Bluff last night, and passed the Port to Dunedin. The schooner Bencleuch, with a cargo of grain, from Moeraki, for Hokitika, has put in with loss of cargo. Phe steamers Lady of the Lake, for the Molyneux; and Shag, for Shag Point, sailed last even-in-g. The ketch Good Templar having been cleaned and recoated, was taken off Fletcher’s Slip at high water yesterday. The s.s. Easby was removed alongside the railway pier this morning to take in cargo for Sydney, via Northern Ports. Messrs M'Meckan, Blackwood, and Co.’s s.s. Omeo took her departure for Melbourne, via Northern Ports, early this morning, from the railway pier.
The barque Koh-i-Noor was removed fro£i the lower anchorage to a more convenient discharging berth off the head of the graving dock yesterday afternoon.
The N.Z.S.S. Co.’s 's.s. Phoebe, with the Otago portion of the San Francisco mails arrived alongside the railway pier at 11.25 this morning. Her mails were immediately landed and conveyed to Dunedin by special train,at 11.45 a.m. The Phoebe le ftthe Manukauat 5 p.m. on the 14th., Arrived at Taranaki at 8 a.m. on tho 15th; left again at 8.10 a.m., and arrived at Nelson at 11.30 p.m. same night, aud in consequence of there being ■op ilot boat ia. attendance. Captain Wotup lowered the ship’s boat aud landed mails and passengers, am l left at 3,20 a.m. on the 16th, arriving at Picton at ll a.m.; left at 11.40 a.m., and arrived at Wel--1 .ngton at 4.80 p.m. ; left at 8.30 p.m. same evening and arrived at Lyttelton at 0.45 on the 17th; left at 4.15 p.m., aud arrived as above, thus making the passage from the Munakau to Wellington in forty•seyou and a-half hours, including five hours and ton minutes detention; from the Mauakau to Lyttelton in sixty-seven and three-quarter hours, including •nine hours ten minutes detention; and from tho ; V: anakau to Otago in throe days eighteen hours, ineludmg twelve hours forty-five minutes’ detention at the various ports. She experienced strong S.E. winds and theavy sea from Mauakau to Nelson. ”°ha
The N.Z.S.S. Company’s s.s. Ladybird arrived from the Northern ports at 5 p.m. yesterday. After landing her mails and passengers at the railway pier, she steamed to the head of the Graving Dock and was taken in this morning for the purpose of being cleaned and having her bottom recoated with anti-fouling composition. She left the Manokau at 3 p.m. on the 11th inst., called at Taranaki, Nelson, Picton, Wellington, Lyttelton, and Oamaru. She experienced light S. W. wind with head sea from the Vlanukau to Taranaki; thence to Nelson S.E. gale; at 8.15 p.m. on the 12th shipped a heavy sea, which carried away some of her hen-coops, shifted meat house and flUed the starboard cabins on the lower deck; thence to Lyttelton fresh S.E. breeze, and from Lyttelton to Port Chalmers strong N.E. breeze, We thank Mr Dougherty (purser) for report and exchanges.
