August 16.—Bruce, s.s., 208 tons, Jones, for Lyttelton via Timaru. The Union Company’s s.s. Bruce sailed last evening for her usual trip to Lyttelton, via Timaru The Union Company’s s.s. Beautiful Star returned early this morning from her usual trip to Lyttelton via intermediate ports, and passed up to Dunedin ’ The Union Company’s p.s. Samson came down from Dunedin this morning for her usual trio to Oamaru, but, owing to the heavy N.E gale her departure was postponed until the weather moderates. The schooner Ellbank Castle, which was stranded on the Ninety-mile Beach during the heavy gale of June last, was successfully launched off the beach on Sunday, and arrived at Port Chalmers last night. She will be taken into dock for a thorough overhaul.
