The tolegrapa wires passing in front of the house were so much injured that communication with the \\ esfc Coast was interrupted. The building is insured in the South British for L3OO and the furniture for L2OO.

Nelson, August 12, A large meeting was held in the Provincial Hall bust night, when it wasjproposed“ That this meeting cordially approves of the Government measures re Rbolition of Provinces throughout Jv cw Zealandto which an amendment was moved that—"ln the opinion of this meeting the -Abolition and Local Government Bills should stand over till they can be dealt with by the pew Parliament.” Nine persons only voted for the amendment, and the original resolution was carried amid loud cheers, and a copy sent to the Nelson members.

The hall was crammed in every part, and tno lasings were over Ll2O, The Arrow Dramatic Club played “ Rob Roy” in a style seldom equalled by amateurs, the characters of the outlaw, Helen Macgregor, the Bailey, and Douguld being splendid impersonations. The c-.irmary wire most enthusiastically received, I'hey play ‘‘Rory O’More” to-night. The celeation wound up with a ball, at which nearly 100 couples were present.
