The oocultation of the planet Mars by the Moon, which takes place this evening—from th irteen minutes past five to sixteen minutes past six—has been looked forward to with a gn iat deal of interest. Unfortunately, at the time of writing—4 p.m.—the sky is overcast, an i there is little hope of any observations being obtainable. "We understand that a requfitkn, numerously signed, was presented this afternoon to Mr Julius Hyman by the Jewish residents of Dunedin,asking himtoallowbimselfto be nominated President of the Dimcdm Jewish Congregation, at the annual election, in the place of Mr B. Isaac, whose term of offoe shortly expires. “
