THE FIRE BRIGADE.
To the Editor. Sir, —Having heard a member of the Council making remarks to the effect that the preseut Fire Brigade are disbanding principally for the purEose of having a scramble tor the funds in and, I venture to say that those remarks come with a very bad grace from this worthy Councillor. I happen to know that this pers m was a member of the old Brigade, and that he partook of a division of the funds when its disbanding took place; but, unlike the remainder of the members of that body, he did not contribute his quota to the funds of the Benevolent Institution, and I am under the impression that the amount advanced by a leading officer oi the late Brigade has not yet been liquidated by this representative of a portion of the citizens. Hoping you will see fit to insert these few lines.—l am, &c. _ , . Consistency. Dunedm, August 9.
