The railway where it is at present situated will destroy the trade of the port. The Board also passed a resolution that iimaru and Gladstone should have an additional member, or re-distribution of representation. The population is now over 10,000, and is rapidly increasing.

The Lincoln Road Board has pa»sed a resolution also asking that the question of the abolition of Provinces be deferred until after the general election. {From our own Correspondents ) Auckland, August 6. • Anxiety is widely felt here for news of the topsail schooner Dauntless, belongingto MrConroy, of this city. She left Moeraki about July 8, for Wellington, with a cargo of breadstuffs, and no tidings have since been received. The Dauntless is-a fine weatherly vessel of about eighty tons register, was built by Messrs Nicool and Son, of the North Shore, and was a remarkably fast sailer. Captain Poul- - was in command.

Riverton, August 7. A ploughing match was held yesterday in Mr Stewart’s paddock, Gumnaie’s Bush, under the auspices of the Western District Farmers’ Club, and was the most successful ever held in Southland. The attendance was numerous, and the weather beautiful. Over thirty ploughs were on the ground, including two or three furrows. At the dinner, held in Saunders’s barn in the evening, about 150 persons sat down, and the toasts being quickly disposed of, dancing was commenced and kept up till tight this morning. Everything went off very satisfactorily.
