A CONTRADICTION.
To the Editor. SIR,—I observe in your last night’s issue that an explanation was given to tho Town Council meeting as to the reason why the public lamps were not lighted last Tuesday night. The explanation is entirely wrong, whoever gave it, as I and my men never had any disagreement. Tho disagreement was between me aud Mr Hankey’s attorney, Mr Ritchie, he refusing to give me the full amount of my account due for the last month’s lighting (as per contract). I then refused to light up the City, or go on with rny contract unless I got it. I did not get it, so no lamps were lighted up by me or any of my men.—lam, &c., R. W. Davies, Contractor. West Dunedin, August 6.
