NOTICES OF BOOKS.

Young Ladies' Journal for July; E. Harrison, London. London Journal ‘London Journal ’ office, Strand. The Family Herald : W. Stevens, Strand. J. Braithwaite, comer of High and Fleet streets, Dunedin.

The ‘Young Ladies” certainly keeps up its reputation as a really household journal. Tho patterns for needle and fancy work are exceedingly pretty, and not beyond accomplishment even by tho veriest novice. Ladied who make their own dresses will find good-traced patterns ef Peplum and Cuirusse. As this style is so very much worn just now, we are sure these patterns will prove very welcome. In the ‘ London Journal ’ the serial stories ar® continued, and two new ones are commenced called “ One Night’s Mystery,” by Mrs M. A. Fleming; and “Divinely Fair,'’ by a now author. We have no doubt these will both prove quite up to the usual standard of fiction published in this journal. A short but interesting account of the new prima donna, Mdlle. Zar®, Thalberg, will be found this month. The ladies’ supplement and colored fashionsheet are given as usual with this journal. The ‘ Family Herald ’ keeps up quite to the usual mark, A very interesting new story, entitled “ The Squire’s Legacy ” is commenced, and “Redeemed by Love” seems to be drawing to a close; certainly the latter part is an improvement on the beginning of this story. We had nearly omitted to mention a very pretty design for a basket for tisiting cards, and the colored fashion-plate issued with the ‘ Youim Ladies’ Journal. ’ °
