PORT CHALMERS TOWN COUNCIL.
The usual fortnightly meeting of the above Council was held last evening; present—His Worship the Mayor, Crs. Rose, M‘Gregor, Menelaus, M'Kenzio, and Miller.
The Town Clerk read the following communications ; —From Mr Pearce, contractor for the Waterworks, asking to be supplied with the detail or working drawings for the supply pipes. On the motion of Cr. M‘Kenzie, the Clerk was instructed to forward a copy ef the letter to Mr Blair. —From Mr David Law, calling the attention of the Council to the very dangerous state of the Flagstaff Hill, caused by the contractors of the new pier.—From Mr Joyce, solicitor to the Corporation, informing the Council that the Corporation leases were now prepared.—From Mr Boaz, asking permission to make a crossing in the footpath in Mount street. Granted.— FromjMr Webb, thanking the Council for the renewal of his appointment as assessor. Read. —From Mr 0. F. Black, requesting the Council to forward him a copy of the valuation of the town, and of last year’s income and expenditure, for the purpose of selling the waterworks debentures in the London market. Read. —From Mr Sanders, asking permission to excavate across the road in Be&oh street for the purpose of making a drain to connect with the Government drain. Granted, subject to the usual conditions. —From Messrs Howorth and Hodgkins, solicitors, intimating that they had been instructed by Messrs . and A. Perry to inform the Council that the workmen employed in constructing the waterworks have broken down fences and used a portion of their land for a dray road for carting earth and material to and from the works, and requesting the Corporation to repair all damage done, and stating that if further trespasses were committed legal proceedings would be instituted. Referred to the Waterworks Committee, with power to act.
Cr. M'Kbnzib proposed mittee be appointed, consisting of Crs, Miller, Asher, Menelaus, and the mover, to draw up a report on the damage done to the Town Belt; and also on the land taken from the town for railway purposes ; the same to be forwarded to the member for Port Chalmers, at Wellington, to enable him to urge the Corporation’s claims upon the Government,” Gamed, Cr. M'Gregor proposed—“ That a dray road be formed in East Ward, from Mary street to Kaio lane.” To stand over till next meeting. His worship the Mayor then thanked the Councillors for their services and attendance during the past year. Or. M'Grkqor moved a vote of thanks to his Worship, and the Ceonoil adjourned.
