Allan Wright, compositor, Dunedin, writes disclaiming, on the part of the printers, any sympathy with MrLeGrove's letter to the Dunedin ' Star,' and saj ing the writer had notthe authority of the Typographical Association. In maintainance of the character of the Auckland printers he says: —" I trust the good sense of the compositors of Auckland will treat he Grove's letter with thecontempt it deserves. Lawbence, July 14. The action of Messrs Keid, Bastings, and Clark re the Heriot Hundred, meet with general approval throughout the up-country districts which are interested in the settlement of the people. Mr Kitching is now fencing the best portions of the lately purchased Spylaw run, adjoining the Island block, although the Government proposes to open it for agricultural purposes during the next session of the Provincial Council. It is fine land, and would be arxiously sought after, having a frontage to the Main Dunstan Road, and being bounded by the Molyneux River. Mr Kitching thinks that by fencing it he will, at least for a time, prevent its settlement. At the Town Council Revision Court last night, the Mayor (Mr M. Hay) and Cr Fraer, a cam lidate for the mayoralty, quarrelled. The Mayor took off his coat and threatened mortal combat, using at the same time language more forcible than choice. The scene was thoroughly disgraceful, and a fight was only prevented by the intervention of the other Councillors. It is likely to affeot the election considerably. A dinner to Mr J. C. Brown, M.H.R., takes place to-night, when he will be presented with a purse of 200 guineas. A large attendance is expected.
