A STRANGE DISCOVERY.
Our Queenstown telegram to-day contains an extraordinary item of news. Many will recollect that a few months ago much excitement was created there in consequence of a charge of petty larceny having been preferred against a : domestic named Sloan, in the employ of Mr ’ Powell, hotelkeeper. _ Some of the incidents connected with the girl’s conviction were of a rather dramatic turn. She declared ha- innocence with much intensity of feeling, and her previous character and bearing in" Court convinced many that she was not guilty of the charge brought against her. Petitions in her favor were got up, but they had not the effect of reducing her punishment. She served her sentence and when hei time expired it will be recollected that her lover took her from the gaol to the homo she now calls her own in the finest turn out the town could furnish Now comes a discovery which establishes the girls innocence.
