SHAKESPEARE.
To the Editor.
Sie,—“ Hamlet,” as acted last evening at the Princess’s Theatre, gave evidence that the playgoing people of Dunedin appreciate Shakespeare. The crowded pit and stalls were attentive to a degree of interest and intelligence that showed the wonderful charm of Shakespeare’s genius is still fresh. Great credit is due to the management for the care with which the great play was put on the stage. Although there was room for criticism, yet the acting on the whole was highly creditable, _ being natural, and in good taste. " J ™ n( “ tlon3 of Hamlet and Ophelia, by Mr and Mrs Bates, were, as they should be, the gems of the play.—l am, &c.,
