PRE-SESSIONAL UTTERANCES.

Mr Thomson, M.H.R. for the Clutha, has been among his constituents at Gatlin's River and Tort Molyueux, having, as he himself puts it, a little conversation with them on public matters, particularly those having a local interest. On the abolition question, he said that the course of events since last session of Assembly, particularly the action of the Government in neglecting their official duties, had rather confirmed him in his views than otherwise, lib would vote against abolition. He was certain that the smallest Province of the Colony had manag- d its affairs much better than the General Government had managed the important business intrusted to them. If the Assembly, when it met, did not find things in a muddle, this must be owing more to good luck than good guiding. The question of telegraphic extension to the Nugget lighthouse was introduced, and Mr Thomson stated that he had on several occasions brought this under the notice of the House and the Government, but without effect. The meeting were of opinion that the extension of the telegraph to the Signal Station at Port Molyneux would be sufficient, at least in the meantime. 'J he lighthouse would communicate with the Signal Station by means of the ordinary shipping signals. The Port would be equally weU adapted for meteorological purposes, and it wouM be within reach of the public for telegraphic messages.
