It is interesting to compare this exclusive state of hind tenure with that far more widely distributed condition which prevails in New Zealand; and also the conditions with regard to it of the people of the different parts of the Colony respectively. The figures in the two first columns are taken from the official volume of statistics for 1874, which contains the results of the agricultural census taken in February of last year. It will be seen that on an average, in this Province, there is one “holding” of one acre or more in extent to every fifteen of the population, whilst for the Colony it is one holding to thirteen
