PORT CHALMERS TOWN COUNCIL.

Rose, M‘GreA * her ’ Me “ e1 *'"’ Correspondence was read from Undersecretary Wxlhs, intimating that he had been directed to acknowledge the receipt of the Councils letter applying for the registration of Crown Grants of the reserves in blocks 4 and 6, North Harbor and Blueskm district, vested in the Corporation of Port Chalmers by the Port Chalmers Reserves Management Ordinance, 1868, and to acquaint the Council that the registration would be immediately effected on payment by the Oo£ potation of the necessary fees at the Land Office, Dunedin. From the Provincial Auditor, intimating that he had been requested by the Colonial Treasurer to ask the Council to supply certain information respecting the amount and method of apportioning the rates in the district, and informing the Council that the information supplied would be thrown into a form ebsely resembling one enclosed, and requesting that the schedule so enclosed might be filled up with the least possible delay, with the addition of any notes or remarks which might be considered of value, mid explaining the figures supplied.— From the Secretary to the Harbor Board, requesting the Council to elect a member of the Board for the ensuing year.—From Messrs Boulas and M‘Kay, asking permissionto transfer the lease of quarry N<v*l to Messrs Samson and Peters (permission granted) j and from Mr JNorth, asking permission to cross footpath with horse and dray in Wick iif terrace. Reports : From the Reserves Committee, informing the Council that air Webster’s offer onr! ea ? e J a . porfcion of the Town Belt, 40fc by oOrt, had been recommended; from the Lighting Committee, informing the Council of the> interview with Mr Rider, the secretary to the Gas Company, who was willing, on behalf o| the company to enter into negotiations with the Council for the purchase of the works, at a Ifceto be fixed by valuation in the meantime' that he was willing to continue the contract' with the Corporation for the current twelvemonths, at previous prices., He could makeup reduction, the rate being lower than at Dunedin, but was willing to withdraw the three kerosene lamps if the Council should wish.it; The discussion of the report;was interrupted several times by Cr. M‘Gregor, his Worship, adjourned the meeting for a few minutes, whop Cr. M'Gregor retired and the business was-re-Burned—the reports being adopted. On Or. Dodson’s motion it was resolved that a deputation consisting of the Mayor, Cr. Asher land the mover should wait upon the Superintendent to ask for a portion of the reclaimed ground at Mussel Bay for the erection of gasworks. The Town Clerk was instructed to write to the Blueskin Koad Board, calling their attention to the state of the road between Port Chalmers and. Purakanui, and to ask them to use their influence in getting the money voted by the Government for the repairs of that road.
Cr. Ashkb called the attention of the Council to tho state of tho footpath and road to the railway station, and moved That the footpath be at once cleaned and kept in order, which was carried. For the representation of the Council at the Harbor Board, Messrs W. Murray, W. Reid, and H. M'Dermid were nominated, and the choice of the Council fell on the last-men-tioned.
