ATHLETIC SPORTS.

To the Editor. Sib,—As public attention has lately been directed to the desirability of establishing athletic sports in Dunedin, I take the liberty of representing, through the medium of yottr columns, a grievance of some of the. members of the Dunedin Football Club, which, it nos rectified, will seriously affect the popularity, of this healthful and exhilarating game. , The grievance I refer to is that since the openmg of the season, the committee on every Saturday havO' appointed some match or other to be played, in which, of course, only a limited number of the members can take part. It is significant that these matches almost invariably consist of the same players for the Club, to the exclusion of other members who possess equal nghts and privileges. Ou Saturday last I heard several members complain of this injustice and unfair treatment. As I Believe the object of the Club is to en able gentlemen who are confined during the week to enjoy a ’little amusement and exercise on Saturdays, I Would suggest, in order to preserve the popularity of the Club and engender good feeling amongst all its members, that in future Club matches be played once a month only, and that th© other Saturdays be devoted to scratch matches. This arrangement would, Ihelieve, bo hailed with satisfaction, and'afford the committee an opportunity of judging the merits of several members who are eager for the fray and anxious to win their spurs while the season lasts. —I am, &c., ~ .. _ _ Out 1 in thb Cold. Dunedin, June 21.
