Drunkenness.— John Hunt was let off with a caution; Mathew Maloney and Richard Sexton were each ss, or twenty-four hours’ • James M‘Arthur 20s, or forty eight hours’; and Alfred Wood (who was further charged with conducting himself in a riotous manner in 1 nncea street on Saturday, night) 40s, or three days’ imprisonment. Attempted Rescue —George Tyson, who on being charged with attempting to rescue the prisoner Wood from the custody of the police, pleaded that he had merely endeavored to get home his friend, who had suffered from a superabundance ” of mixed fluids, was fined L 5, with the alternative of a month’s imprisonment.

A Slight Mistake. John Riely was charged with stealing from the Carriers'/Arma Hotel on the 19 th instant, a pair of trousers belonging to one James Keiley. The prosecutor and prisoner occupied the same bedroom, and on Saturday morning when the former wokej up, his companion and his own unmentionables had gone. The prisoner said he got up at two in the morning, and in the dark had not' been able distinguish his own trousers* but seeing that his own were quite valueless! the Bench did not believe his story, and sent him to gaol for three months. Wipe Desertion.— Weekes v. Weekes was dismissed, there being no appearance of the complainant. Mr E. Cook, for the defendant, said his client had a good defence ; the separation being due to the wife’s conduct. Bigamy. Carlotta Catherina Amelia Schmidt was charged with having married Michael Dryden when her husband, Louis Schmidt, was alive.—lnspector Mallard mentioned that the accused, who was well known here, only arrived bythe Bruce yesterday, and the witnesses had to come from Christchurch • wherefore he applied for a remand for a week! The accused on being questioned as to bail, said if her husband were here she would be bailed immediately. The Bench granted the remand applied for by the police, and allowed bad—the accused in LIOO and two sureties of LSO each.

Stealing a Horse.— John Reilly, charged with this offence, was remanded till Monday,
