Melbourne, June 12. The Assembly had only a short sitting on Thursday, when the Laud Bill debate was further adjourned. A charge of forgery is being investigated against Duncan Longern, formerly an officer of Dragoons and a member of the Assembly. A Chinaman has been committed for the manslaughter of a child by a blow aimed at the mother.

A resolution has been passed in the New South Wales Assembly in favor of subsidising the proposed New Zealand cable. The further failures of James Humack and Benjamin Cocks, boot and shoe dealer, with liabilities of L 9.000 are reported. The overland telegraph line has been interrupted for the last two days. A cargo of New Zealand feed oats ex Mary Bannatyne fetched 4s. The steamship Northumberland leaves Melbourne for London to-day.
