MUD OH!

To the Editor. Sm, —Of the muddy streets of Dunedin it is quite unnecessary to write—the Corporation are, it is well known, always very particular, and even jealous in the endeavors to preserve our city as the cleanest and neatest one in New Zealand! _ I must, however, draw attention to the abominable way in which passengers are treated on their walk to or from the Dunedin Railway Station—a line of rails has to be crossed, and then, oh ! mud. The management of the railway has compelled every pedestrian to pass through a regular sea of it—out this is not the worst. Vehicles of all kinds are continually checking their progress. No consideration is given for women or children, they are generally bespattered with mud- not to say nearly run over—in a mo.-t brutal manner. Why is it that no proper provision is made for a practical and even passage to and from the station ? Of course I admit that the station is in the wrong place, but surely there ought to be some check on the drivers of those horrid cabs and expresses, preventing their crossing in front of the passengers at every train delivery very soon there will be a serious accident, and then tlw result may be, as is usually tne case, “nobody to blame,” I write this merely to draw the attention of the public to this real grievance, not that I imagine that there will be any alteration. Dunedin is too slow for that.— I am, &c., A TbAVKIXEB. Dunedin, June 15.
