MOSGIEL.
( From, our own Correspondent. ) ~ , . . Moboiel, June 16. I he chief topics discussed here at present are the Road Board Acts, ploughing matches and railway lines. The doings of our local road boards are causing the ratepayers to have misgivings regarding the method of accumulating and distributing the rates. There are necessary works requiting immediate construction, yet the money is lying idle in the bank, an occasional draw being made for kgal fees incurred in the unravelling of some clause or section of the Ordinance; however, this is to be altered henceforth. The Taieri Society’s ploughing match takes place on Mr Waters’s ground this year, while P er by place of meet is not settled yet. Ihe prevailing opinion here is that the Greytown and Outram Railway route is the one most 9ul |*d for present requirements, the North Taieri settlers having good roads, and being within easy distance of the main trunk line, while Outram and West Taieri will be easier connected via Greytown, although there is no
doubt but what the woollen faotory deserve* a branch about a mile in length, and no engineer* ing difficulties to contend against.
