To the Editor. Sib,—l have been watcHng with some anxiety the correspondence in your paper bn the above subject. As I have not at present the time to devote to the subject, I should not now have troubled you were it not that I do not like to ettheopportunityslip, when, at now, there appears to be some interest aroused. No one accustomed to active exercise can, I think, be long in Dunedin without feeling that there are few opportunities for taking it, unless he has money for {the expensive exercise of riding, &c. To my own mind no exercise recommends itself so strongly as racquets, and I should thiuk no game was more peculiarly suited to men engaged in business, as it can be played in wet or fine weather. A great deal of exercise can be obtained in a very short time, and it is easily learnt. It offers another advantage (and that not the least) that ladies can derive a considerable amount of amusement in watching the game. I may here mention that racquet courts have long been in existence in all the large commercial centres. In India, China, Japan, 4 c.. they are also provided by the English Government for naval and military officers. I should be happy to be allowed the honor, of conferring with those in favor of my proposal as to the best means of establishing a racquet court in Dunedin, after which, if successful, it would be a very simple matter to provide boxing) fencing, k,-I am, &c., Alfbed R. Sims, Retired LieutenaYit Royal Navy. Working Men’s Club, Princes street, Juno 7.
