As soon as the weather moderates the tug Geelong down and tow her up alongside the The Express, steamer, formerly trading between Dunedin and Bluff, is about to be placed fin the Napier and East Coast trade, with Wellington, as head-quarters. Mr Seager, a local iron-worker, has taken a contract to build another steamer for trading between Wellington and Napier.
Messrs Houghton and Co.’s a.B. Wanganui arrirod from her southern trip at 10.30 this morning. She left Birerton at 3 p.m. on the 6th, arrived at the Bluff at 6.30 p.m„ and left again for Port Chalmers at 7.30 p.m., having fresh 9.W. winds along the coast. The s.s. Express came down from Dunedin and steamed .alongside the Earl of Zetland, took on board a number of immigrants for Southland, and toot her departure for the Bluff this afternoon. The barque Robert Jones was towed alongside the railwaypier this morning by the tug Geelong. The Harbor Company’s s.s. Maori returned from her special trip to Timaru at 10 p.m. last night, and steamed alongside the ship Oamaru to discharge grain. She took on board 1,010 bags of grain at Timaru on the 3rd. when the S.W. wind increased to a gale, with high sea, during which her cable parted. Losing her anchor and chain, the other anchor was immediately let go, which held her until Saturday morning, when the gale had increased to a perfect hurricane with tremendously heavy sea; got up anchor and was hove to during the whole day up to midnight, when the weather moderated and her course was shaped for Port Chalmers. Messrs M'Mcckon, Blackwood, and Co.’s fine s.s, Albion arrived alongside the railway pier from Melbourne, via West Coast and Northern Ports, at 10 this morning. She cleared Port Phillip Heads at 2 p.m, on the 27th nit., and arrived off Hokitika at 6 p.m. on the Ist inst. Called at Greymouth, Nelson, Wellington, and Lyttelton. Off the Eadkouras she encountered a terrific southerly gale, which prorented her from making Lyttelton until dark on Saturday evening, and in consequence of the thick weather she was compelled to remain outside. Left again for Port Chalmers at 1.30 p.m. We thank ~M> Harry Eidgely (purser) for report and exchanges. The Albion left again this afternoon for Melbnrne, via the Bluff, with the New Zealand portion of the Suez mail. SHIPPING TELEGEAMS. Wellington, June 6.—Sailed: s.s. Ladybird, for the South. Passengers ;Mr and Mrs Hutchinson and family (five children), Mrs Atwood, Messrs Pike, Bennett, Storey, J. Conway, Watson, M'Gonn, and Evan. Auckland, June 6.—The Eosaxio has been repaired, and has left for England, via the Falkland Islands. Arrived: Galler-ou, from London, 107 days. She has no immigrants. Sailed: ’M'n.rnflion, with a cargo of gum, for New York.
