Thursday, June 3. (Before E. ff. Ward and R. H. Leary, Esqs„ J.P.’s).

Drunkenness.— James Wilson and John Cotterdl, tor this offence, were fined ss, or twenty-four hours’ imprisonment. • Theft. Louis Barnett was charged on the information of Ann Diamond, with having stolen from the Globe Hotel, on June 2, seven blankets, valued at about 1.4, the prosecutrix stated that the prisoner had been staying at her hotel for several days past. On discovering the loss of the blankets she gave immediate information to the police.— Margaret Corbett, the housekeeper at the Globe Hotel, gave co,roborative evidence.—Constable Henderson stated that he recovered the blanket;.- at the shop of Mr Metz, pawnbroker, and from the desci iption received the.c he arrested the prisoner, wno told him (witness) that the blankets were his own property, and that he sold them on account of his going up-country.—The Bench thought his excuse a very lame one, and sentenced him to three months’ imprisonment. vagrancy. —Robert Ridding was charged by the police with Laving no lawful visible means of suuport.—Constable Henderson said that he arrested accus al in u brothel, and that he was always seen about prostitutes’ houses. Sergt Levan gave similar evidence.—Mr Cook, who appeared for tho accused, produced a letter of good character; and called Mr#. Diamond, in whose employ' the accused had been for twelve months, who gave him a very good character.— The Bench said that a* Mrs Diamond had given him a good character, he would be discharged, but they advised him to keep away from such bad quarters as he had been in the habit of frequenting.
