WASTE LAND BOARD.
The weekly meeting of the Board was held this morning ; present—The Chief Com missioner, Messrs Bastings, Clerk, Keid, and Strode.
Mr J. Mont asked the reduction of Messrs Cormack and Nicholl’s rent ©n coal lease for land in blocks 17, 24, and 35, Lawrence. To remain as at present. Messrs Connell and Moodie applied for a license for Mr R, B. Williams to occupy half an acre of the village reserve in block 5, VVaipahee. Referred to the Government. The Queenstown Ranger asked instructions as to issuing timber licenses to persons who hold timber land and cut bush under miners’ rights. Read. Ranger Hungerford wrote concerning the letter of Messrs M‘Phee and Phillips, of the 22ud ult., explaining the statements of these gentlemen, ana adding that he supposed he had a right to carry a gun with him when in the bush so long as he knew how to manage it. Mr Hungerford also said that he was quite prepared and willing for the dispute to go before a Court of law. Kead. Mr W. Benneta applied for a license to occupy two acres at Qaartzville, for slaughtering purposes, now called section 9, kook 42, Bannockburn. To be issued under section 11, at L 5 per annum. Messrs Smith and Anderson, for Mr P Kerrin, applied to purchase land held by him under agricultural lease. Referred to Government.
Mr J. Brown applied to purchase his residence area at Naseby. Referred till the report of the Chief Surveyor is forwarded. Messrs Calder ami Harvey applied for a twenty-one years’ lease of mill site, at Matawia Bridge township, fo* the purpose of erecting a paper factory thereon. Post poned.
The Clerk of the West flawkshury Town Council applied for a license, under clause 161, to occupy Mount Watkins reserve, in blocks 11 and 12, Hawksbury. Approved. The Naseby District Laud Officer recommended the reservation of a section in block 7, Rock and Pillar, for a ferry. To be reserved, with the consent of the Superintendent.
The plan of Messrs Herbert, Howat, and Oo.’a saw-mill area at Glenkenick was submitted and approved. Mr H. Manders, for Messrs Fitzpatrick and party, asked that their license fees might be reduced when taking out a timbercutting license. Mr Mauders aid applicants’ mining lease of six acres had been previously •ut over by sawyers, but a few trees were left, though not sufficient to entitle it to be called bush. Applicants wished to be allowed to use them up for posts and rails for their farms, as they were empowered to burn the trees down and it was therefore only reasonable fchv they should be allowed to make a good use of the timber instead of wasting it. Referred to the Ranger for full report.
Mr G. Graham applied to purchase an island in Waipori Lake, adjoining his property—sections 2 and 3, block 6, Maungatua East. Refused.
