TOWS EDITION. LATE ITEMS.

We understand that the inquiry into the robbery of the alleged missing bank-notes was concluded at the Police Station, before Mr Strode, R.M., to-day. No decision has yet been arrived at. The Inspector of Nuisances has been making quite a raid on persons for breaches of the byelaws lately. To-morrow thirty-nine cases, principally for unclean premises and charges against yoal-carters of not complying with the law, will be heard* _ This is the largest number of cases ever heard st this Court in one day. The police have as yet not received any definite clue as to the robbery from the Resident Magistrate’s Court-house. We hear it stated that one of the clerks lately employed in the office has since been missing. A meeting of those who voted against the Bastings Executive held a meeting in the Provincial Council library shortly after the rising of the Council this afternoon, and it was determined, we believe, that Mr Reid should be free to choose his colleagues. The member for tho Taieri was, however, plainly given to understand that if he went back to the Treasury benches with the whole of his former colleagues it was more than probable the vote of a fortnight ago would be repeated. Rumor also saith that a proposition to form a coalition was largely discouraged by the meeting. There is little doubt that Mr Reid will be in a position to-morrow to announce that ho has formed a Government; and we have reason to think that it will be found to comprise : 'r Reid, as Provincial Secretary and the head of the Works and Land Departments; Mr Stout, as Provincial Solicitor ; Mr Davie, as Provincial Treasurer • Mr M'Kellar, as Goldfields Secretary; Mr Lumsden, as representing Southland; and Mr Steward as representing the Northern districts.
