TARANAKI IRON SAND COMPANY.
To the Editor. Sir,— As I know there are a number of shareholders in tho Titanic Iron and Steel Company, Dunedin, I, as a shareholder being much interested in the success of the company, would like shareholders to know that it will be needful for a, properly-qualified manager to bo secured if the undertaking is to turn out well People here have no faith in the present manager, and think a practical man should be secured. It is no use any person being a director, or being put in charge, who does not understand the working of the furnace. No one can say anything against the present manager so far as honesty and uprightness go; bnt he is not thought to have the ability necessary to carry out such a large undertaking. It would come hard on me to lose money which I have invested in the company, and it is to try and prevent that which induces me to write to your paper, so that the Dunedin shareholders may help to see the work carried out properly, and by a practical man. So far as the furnace goes, it, appears to have been carried out well, and is a splendied piece of work. The engine and other material on the ground appear to be of the best. A large number of the compound bricks for smelting have been prepared, and the making of them is continued day by day, so that when the works are all completed there will be a largo stoc c on hand. lam well satisfied with what has been done so far. It would be better to delay trying the furnace for even twelve months than to run the risk of failure thi'ough not having a practical man. As there are a large number of shareholders in Dunedin, any action taken by them would carry more weight with the Wellington directory. There are not enough shareholders in Taranaki for [them to do much of themselves to amend matters. Hoping that no favoritism will prevail, and that only some thoroughly practical man who will be put in in charge o the concern, is the earnest wish of a Taranaki Shareholder,
