The amount of revenue received at the Customhouse on goods cleared for consumption this dav was LI, 10316s Id. Business during the past week has shown no improvement on the previous one, and no transactions of any moment have taken place. Purchasers are only buying to satisfy immediate wants. Wo cannot quote much alteration in last week’s prices. Hennesay’s case brandy no change, bulk 8s 9d to 9s • Martell’s ease 80s; Otard’s bulk 7s 9d, case 265! Teas are dull and no change to report. Dried fruits still keep very scarce, and high in price. Currants, 4id to Aid; Eleme raisins, 7id; sultanas, 7id. dandles, 10Jd to 10$ d. Kerosene as last. Toboccoes at last quotations, with a further upward tendency. American salmon, 10s 6d; Morton’s lls 6d j lobsters, 10s 6d to 10s 9d; oysters, 6s 6dto 0s 9d. Sugars dull and no change. THE LABOR MARKET. Mr Skene reports that the labor market is in a very healthy state at present, there being plenty of work for men and women of all degrees. Wages are as follows Day laborers, 8s to 10s per day • masons, carpenters,, and such, from 12s to 15s per day; ploughmen, L 55 to L7O; ordinary and knockaoouts, 15s and 20s per week; storemen, 45s per week and found; gardeners, grooms, barmen, cooks, &c., from 25s to 60s per week ; female servants, for house, from L 26 to L4O; hotel do, from L3O to L 53 per year; couples, L 75 to L9J: shepherds, L6sto L7O; handy boys and girls, 6s !o 15s per week; miners, bushmen. and sawmill hands, 9s to 10s per dav; indoor trades are busy; clerks are almost the only drag in the market.
