Friday, Mat 21. (Before G. M'Lean and J. Black, Esqs., J.P.V

, Drunkenness. —Thomas Slendross appeared in answer to his bail, but as he was suffering from the effects of drink he was ordered to be locked up. Vaqranot. —Fanny Miller was sent to gaol for seven days for having no lawful means of support.

Theft bt a Domestic.— Matilda Craig, a young woman, ]'leaded guilty to a charge of stealing a piece of flannel, a pair of braces, and a lace collar, of the value of 25>, from her late employer, Reuben Hart.—The Bench considered that it would be a pity to associate accused with the other criminals by sending her to gaol, and were willing to take a lenient view of the matter. 1 hey allowed her to go at large, on her own recognisances, for thirty days, and if she conducted herselt well iu the meantime they would probably discharge her. . Neglected Children.— Alexander (5) and Jane (3) Labran were charged with being neglected children. The children were illegitimate, and the father having gone irto the country they had been neglected by the mother. Having been found wandeiing in Forbury, they were taken as neglected children by the police. —Mr M‘Lean remarked that the Industrial School was now over-crowded. If they sent such cases to ihe Industrial School they would have half of the town there. It was impossible to continue sending children to the School at the rate at which they had been sent.—The mother was ordered to take charge of the children in the meantime, and on the father’s return to town she was advised to take steps for the children’s maintenance.
