THE LAND
In the Courthousel at Lawrence, on Thurala3t,_ about 5,000 acres of land in the ' vaikoikoi Hundred were offered for sale by auction. Forty-one sections in all were put tip nnn com! et *^ on > varying in size from forty to 200 acres. The upset price price was L2 per acre. There were only about a dozen persons present, but the eompetition‘for some of the land was very keen. Mr Logan was theprincipal purchaser, land being situated on ms run f and a great deal of it having a frontage to the Fomabaka river considerably enhanced its value. After the disposal of section 27, until the close of the sale, most of the land was keenly competed for, although it was evident that Mr Legan intended having the sections he wanted at whatever cost. There were s * x „ bu y ers io all, the amount deposited being L 977 Is 7d, and the total returns from the disposal of this fine piece of country will be L 9,772 4s 9d, which justifies the price of L2 per acre fixed upon it by the Government. There were ninety-one applications for fourteen sections of land under the deferred payment system, in the Waipahee, Waikaka, and Kuriwao districts lately, and comprising?about 3,000 acres.
