FATAL ACCIDENT.
The following particulars of a fatal accident have been kindly furnished to us by Dr t/arr, who was on the scene immediately after the occurrence, and, with his secretary, rendered all possible assistance to the unfortunate men who were injured. An express waggon, driven by a Chinaman, and carrying five or six others as passengers, and drawn by two horses, was proceeding southland when going down Saddle Hill, near Purvis’ Hotel, from some unexplained cause, the Horses bolted and the trap was upset. When Dr Carr came up he found one man insensible. After considerable effort on the part of the doctor, consciousness was restored, but the man diedl about twenty minutes afterwards. The driver of the conveyance is reported to have several ribs broken, besides other injuries, and a third man is badly hurt on the head. After rendering such assistance as was possible under the circumstances, Dr Carr proceeded-to town and gave information of the accident to the police.
