White, and conducting the manufacture, of Pottery and' Earthedwwo upon -a scale somewhat commensurate with the large market presented in New Zealand and the other Australian Colonies, this being the only Pottery Work established, in the Southern Hemisphere. Ptesent works were commenced by Mr W, M* White about a year ago, since which time he has disposed of over L 3.000 worth <?f Salt Glaze Pipes alone, the market for whidh is steadily on the increase, and beyond the present producing powers of the establishment. Durul" this period Mr White has also devoted a_ considerable port?"' 11 of his time and attentiffb fe; the preparation of ttie building? piaster the manufacture of ail! classes of mpery Ware upon the most apprpyed principles ‘and latest improvements in machinery used ip SteffoidsTiire, and recognised as the best and most economical m the world. The proiierty i» situated in the centre of Milton
Mr W. M. White has now ready for market large supplies of saleable articles for generiil and domestic purposes. The present time is, therefore, considered by the projectors of this Company the most favorable opportunity for entering upon the possession of the works, and pushing the manufacture and sale of Pottervware in this and the adjoining Colonies.' An estimate of the nature and extent of the available market may be .arrived at from the fact that tne value of such imports into New Zealand alone.for .the year ending December last 1 amounted to L 70.000, of which Otago alone importeil m,m wbrtfor ‘ ~T he promoters • have eveiy confidence that they wfll foe epabled lo supply the whole Colonial market with any article in potteryware, iat luwl su ffi c,e to compete successfully with the Home article, while securing aTirire margin of profit to the Company, who have secured the services, as manager, of Mr Chfctham, for thirty years proprietor of one of the largest English Potteries, and practically aoquainted with the various processes adopted in every branch of the trade. The services of the present staff—of over thirty thoroughly experienced hands-brought from the Staffordshire Potteries direct, and now engaged upon the works, have alsp hpep obtained. The projwstors have agreed witfi Mr W. M. White to take over the Freehold Property, con- - sisciug of Three Acres of Land surrounding the present centrally situated Works (secured with a -new to their future development), and the' largo and substantial buildings, with plant and estimated at, or about, L/,0(K), including the General Govemmen" bonus of L3OO. The amount of goodwill, esti mated at Mr White has resolved to n vest in the Company in paid-up shares totha amount, so confident is he in the bona tides o the undertaking in the hands of a public Com P“y* The projectors have also seemed iron Mr White hie right obtained from the Genera Government to J-emove ofoy from the lands ad joimnor the line of raff way jbe,t weep Tokomairir and the CJpthe, which clay is sdlbwed! by com petent judges, to bp Mpgl to any' found ii England for manufacturing purposes. Th Government are now forming a siding to thesi clay pits, which are inexhaustible. The pro jected branch line to the Tokomairiro coal field has also been surveyed to pass in front of th premises, so that the works will be •in railway communication with he raw material, with iiri a>nd cheap coal supplies, and with a p'or of shipment; aa with the metropolis dm the larger toWnships of the Province likely t< fonn good markets for suppUesV' onS appeal for support with even *«Sf d 4of Tokomairiro am 2fW?ftr f v the of Bnwe generally, as thei establishment of this industry hasalreadj tended greatly to develop the resources of the district m opening up clay and coal mines. 4mploying a large amount of outside labor in procuring anAcarfcmg timber, coal, and clay supplies; while the rerant unexampled prosperity ■ of Milton has been greatly advanced by the presence in its midst of the large number of employes—men, women, and chil-dren-engaged upon the works;’ and which would be greatly increased by a larger proprietary possessed of Increased capital to carry on the works to every advantage. The promoters also confidently bring the enterprise under the notice of the general public of. Otago, as it is a well-known fact that nothing so tends to advance the prosperity of a Co « n . tr ya«tbeestablishment of local industries within its borders, thus preventing the export of capital frem the Colony for supplies of everyday requirements. Apart from these considerations, the enterprise of itself promises to be an amply remunerative and successful one. The projectors, having given the matter in all its aspects every consideration, have great pleasure in placing the Company in the market and believe it will prove in every way worthy of public confidence and co-operative support, loons of application may be obtained from V? Uptick, Broker, Milton j or Mr M. W, Hawkins, Dunedin. ''' 1 GEORG® OAPSTIOE, Interim Secretary?
