THE BUILDING REGULATIONS.

To the Editor.

Sib, —About six months ago I purchased a piece of piece of ground that cost mo L 8 10s per foot. On it I erected tUro houses, at a cost of L 650, and, according to the bye-law, I was compelled to keep five feet from any other building, unless I built all of brick. This caused me to lose three feet on either side of me, my neighbors having built to within two feet of my boundary. Of course I complained; but it was of no use. I was compelled to keep five feet off, although X was building brick outer walla, or ten feet off if building all wood. Sir, this is all very well, seeing it is the law, but what I want to know is—why are some allowed to go within four feet ? I refer te a building that has just been removed and reerected in Stafford street,. and put only fortytwo inches from the next house. Another thing,, sir; this is on ground held only under lease, and which cost the owner LUO, Is this fair, I ask ? I hope you will give this piece of favoritism publication, for it will open the eyes of intending builders. The bouse referred to is forty-two Inches from any other one way, and fifteen feet from any other on the other side.— I am, &c. Dunedin, May 9,
