Since then proposals were made In ' the Assembly for the abolition of Provinces, and next session an effort would be made .to carry, them out. He was in favor of a change being made in the form of local selfgovernment. Many friends, including recently elected M.P.’s, asked him to continue in office for the. present; but he denied the statment made at Clive by Mr Buchanan, that he had in fluenced the route which the railway should take. He had pushed on the Hawke’s Bay railway, but had left the line of route to the engineers. He said the worst kind of lie was ope with just a little truth in it. He considered Mr Buchanan had adopted’a very unmanly course in malting aspersion against him in his (Mr Ormond’s) absence.
