THE LABOR ‘MARKET.
Mr Skene reports that the demand for people during the week has been very large, but the supply of usetul hands is decidedly far short of the reqvm£ meats. Plenty of men are knocking about, but few of them are suited for agricultural work. Female servants with experience are very scarce; skilled trades are still busy. Wages : Shepherds, L 65 and wo; gardeners, grooms, cooks, waiters, and barmen, from 25s to (ids per week ; ploughmen, L 52 to LOo; couples from L7oto L9O; carpenters, 12s to 14s per day; bushmeu, 9s per day, or Cs per cord; day laborers, 8s to 9s; useful boys and girls from Cs to los per week ; dairy hands, 15s and 2ds per weekhouse girls from L 26 to L4O: hotel do, L3G to L 52 and often higher; shop aud desk hands, 35s to 70s per week, but very quiet.

A portion of tiie building was in possession of Mr Harding, who had a license to sell liquors ; hut, not making money, he was obliged to succumb to circumstances, and the directors terminated his tenure aud made a virtue ot necessity bv remitting a. considerable portion of the rent due in consideration of his rendering vji possession of the premises.
