AN EXPLANATION.
To the Editor. Sir, — Allow me, through the medium of your pape~, to correct an error which ocouned iu the Police Court ou the 30th inst. Constable Bain stated : “ I have known this woman for a long time. _ Her eldest daughter was sent to the Industrial School for seven years, for housebreaking, and she has brought up her family in a most discreditable manner.” In justice to my eldest daughter, I beg to state that she has been in Greymoutli for the last six years, and should this ivport reach her husuaml. it might cause her and her family lifoloug miser/. My second daughter has lies ; m Oaii’am for ton years ; my youusrer one when nine years’ aid unfoitm ately was sent to the School for time years, hence the mistake. I do not think any of my children a disgrace. My sons are both iu good situations and hi dilv spoken of by their employers. As for myself. I am the victim of a gross slander, and my little fatherless children the sufferers. Lot those who profess to follow the doctrines of Christ act up to His precepts, and not strive tr crush the widow and orphans,—l am, ifec., Harriett Wakeham. Filleul street, May 3.
